The Centre for Health and Social Relief (CHSR), a sub-recipient to Community Health and Support Empowerment Initiatives (COHSEI), an implementing partner of Damien Foundation under the IHVN Global Fund Grant Cycle 7 (GF-7) National Tuberculosis, HIV Reach and Impact Project, in collaboration with the Khadijat Toyin Musah Foundation (KTM Foundation), successfully conducted a joint community health outreach in Ijora-Apapa, Lagos State.
The outreach featured community PDX activities, Tuberculosis (TB) and HIV screening, blood pressure checks, health education, and community sensitization, aimed at improving health awareness, promoting early detection, and encouraging residents to seek timely healthcare services.
The community outreach was honoured by the Local Government Tuberculosis, Leprosy and Buruli Ulcer Supervisor (TBLS), Community Tuberculosis and HIV Supervisors (CTHS), two (2) Community Tuberculosis and HIV Workers, three (3) Community TB Volunteers, the CHSR Programme Officer and other members of the CHSR team.
Representing the Khadijat Toyin Musah Foundation, the programme was supported by Awwal Adebayo, Deputy Coordinator General and Lagos State Coordinator, alongside Adegboye Prince, Head of Finance, Salami Sodiq, Fundraising Officer, and Fiyinfoluwa Titilayo, Outreach Coordinator.
The health education and community sensitization sessions were delivered by Baliqees Aderonke and Fiyinfoluwa Titilayo, who educated community members on Tuberculosis, HIV prevention, early detection, healthy living, and the importance of accessing appropriate healthcare services.
The blood pressure screening component was supported by Madam Basheerat, Ameerah, and Fodilat, who actively participated in conducting blood pressure checks for community members. Their dedication and support contributed significantly to the smooth and successful delivery of the outreach.
Speaking on the collaboration, CHSR Programme Officer, Tunde Festus Kolawole, expressed appreciation to the leadership and members of the KTM Foundation for their support, commitment and partnership in bringing essential health services and education closer to residents of Ijora-Apapa.
He noted that the activity would contribute to strengthening TB/HIV active case finding in Apapa LGA, significantly increasing community awareness of Tuberculosis and HIV, strengthening collaboration between CHSR and the KTM Foundation, and improving access to quality healthcare support within the community, in line with the mission of Damien Foundation.
The Khadijat Toyin Musah Foundation (KTM Foundation) reaffirmed its commitment to supporting community-based health interventions that promote disease prevention, health education, early detection and improved access to healthcare services.
Speaking on behalf of KTM Foundation, Awwal Adebayo, Deputy Coordinator General and Lagos State Coordinator, appreciated CHSR and all participating health professionals, supervisors, community workers, volunteers and team members for their cooperation and commitment to the success of the outreach.
He emphasized that bringing health education, screening and preventive services directly to communities remains an important strategy for improving health awareness and encouraging individuals to take proactive steps toward their wellbeing.
KTM Foundation also recognizes the valuable contributions of Adegboye Prince, Salami Sodiq, Fiyinfoluwa Titilayo, Baliqees Aderonke, Madam Basheerat, Ameerah, and Fodilat, whose collective efforts helped ensure the successful implementation of the programme.
The Foundation further appreciates the CHSR team, TBLS, CTHS, Community Tuberculosis and HIV Workers, Community TB Volunteers, and residents of Ijora-Apapa for their participation and support.
The joint CHSR–KTM Foundation initiative reflects a shared commitment to community health promotion, disease prevention, health education, TB/HIV screening, and improved healthcare access, while contributing to broader public health efforts in Apapa LGA and Lagos State.
