All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State has removed its woman leader, Hajia Mahmmud Adama, from office
She was relieved of her position following her attendance at an empowerment programme organized by Hon. Mohammed Omar Bio, member representing Baruten/Kaiama Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, and a humanitarian visit to Woro with Senator Sadiq Suleiman Umar, representing Kwara North Senatorial District.
Hajia Adama, who confirmed her removal, said she was surprised by the decision as both Hon Bio and Sen Sadiq remained members of the APC
She noted that her participation in their activities should not have been interpreted as an offence against the party.
According to her, she “smelled foul play” in the manner of her removal, particularly because she was not expecting such an action from fellow party members.
Hajia Adama had attended Hon. Bio’s empowerment programme and later accompanied Sen Sadiq to Woro, where the senator visited residents recently released after months in captivity and donated relief materials to the victims.
The woman leader questioned why her participation in the activities of serving APC lawmakers should become a basis for her removal, especially when the events were neither conducted in opposition to the party nor outside the activities of APC stakeholders.
She alleged that some individuals within the party had been working towards her removal long before the two incidents, describing the latest development as an opportunity allegedly used to execute a plan that had already been conceived against her.
Some APC members in the local government, who spoke on the development, expressed concern over what they described as the manner and timing of the removal, particularly the immediate replacement of the woman leader.
The party members observed that political disagreements were not unusual within a political organisation, but stressed that internal decisions affecting party officers should be handled transparently and in accordance with established party procedures.
Some also questioned whether attending an empowerment programme organised by an APC federal lawmaker or joining another APC senator on a humanitarian visit could, on its own, constitute grounds for removing a party officer.
Others, however, said the circumstances surrounding the decision should first be clarified by the appropriate party authorities before conclusions were drawn, noting that the APC leadership might have considerations beyond the two public events.
The development has reportedly generated concern among party members in Kaiama, particularly over the circumstances surrounding the immediate replacement of Adama.
The controversy also comes amid heightened political activity within the APC in Kaiama and across Kwara North ahead of the 2027 general elections, with various political actors increasingly engaging party members and constituents through empowerment programmes, consultations and community outreach.
Hajia Adama maintained that her attendance at the programmes should not be construed as an act of disloyalty, stressing that the individuals involved were all members of the same political party.
The APC leadership in Kaiama is yet to publicly explain the circumstances surrounding her removal as of the time of filing this report.
Hajia Adama also said she was yet to understand the precise grounds upon which the decision was taken and why she was replaced immediately.
