The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for the Baruten/Kaiama Federal Constituency, Hon. Idris Haliru Usman (Obii), has formally flagged off his campaign, placing security, equitable appointments, agriculture, healthcare and education at the centre of his agenda for the constituency.
The campaign flag-off, held on Friday 18th, September, 2026, at Pissio Guest Inn, marked the formal commencement of his mobilisation ahead of the 2027 House of Representatives election in the constituency.
Addressing supporters and stakeholders at the event, Hon Usman-Obii said his aspiration stemmed from the need to provide more effective, people-focused representation for the people of Baruten and Kaiama.
He identified security, equitable appointments, agriculture, healthcare and education as key areas of his agenda, stressing that these issues were closely connected to the wellbeing, economic prospects and future of constituents across the two local government areas.
On security, the candidate said strengthening the safety of communities would be a major priority, particularly as insecurity continues to affect livelihoods and economic activities in parts of the constituency.
He also pledged to pursue fairer access to government appointments and opportunities for qualified people from Baruten and Kaiama, saying the constituency deserves inclusive representation in the distribution of federal opportunities.
Agriculture, he said, would receive particular attention because of its importance to the local economy and the livelihoods of thousands of residents.
He said improving opportunities for farmers and strengthening the agricultural sector would form part of his approach to expanding economic prospects across the constituency.
On healthcare, Hon Usman-Obii said his representation would advocate improved access to quality medical services, particularly for people in rural communities.
Education, he added, would remain a major priority, with emphasis on creating greater opportunities for the youth.
The candidate called for greater unity among the people of the two local government areas, saying collective action remained essential to addressing the challenges confronting the constituency.
He said his campaign was anchored on hope, unity and better representation, with a commitment to ensuring that the concerns of constituents remained central to his proposed representation.
The flag-off brought together supporters, political associates and other stakeholders who gathered to formally commence the ADC candidate’s campaign activities across Baruten and Kaiama.
Hon Usman-Obii urged constituents to support a political process focused on addressing the development needs of the federal constituency and strengthening its voice at the federal level.
