This is contained in a congratulatory message by the Chairman of the West African Postgraduate College of Nurses and Midwives Oyo-Osun Branch, Associate Professor Khadijat Toyin Musah, on behalf of the other members.

The Chairman Oyo-Osun Branch who is also the Dean of the Faculty of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences at the University of Abuja, highlighted Dr. Famutimi’s invaluable contributions to healthcare delivery and public health.

“Particularly noteworthy is her dedication to mentoring young nurses and midwives, thereby enhancing the overall quality of the healthcare workforce in Nigeria,” Toyin Musah said.

Furthermore, the Director of the Center for Health Systems Support and Development at the University of Abuja emphasized Dr. Famutimi’s expertise as a key influencer in shaping healthcare policies and standards, contributing to an advanced understanding of the health system.

The Chairman Oyo-Osun Branch described the prestigious fellowship awarded to Dr. Esther Famutimi as well-deserved recognition of her outstanding expertise as a renowned Maternal and Child Health Specialist.

Dr. Esther Oluwatoyin Famutimi commenced her career at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, in 2007 as a Nursing Officer 1 and steadily progressed to the position of Deputy Director of Nursing in January 2023. Despite starting with a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing Science (BNSc.), her unwavering determination and passion for academic excellence led her to pursue and obtain Master’s and PhD degrees in Nursing in 2014 and 2023 respectively, from the University of Ibadan.

Specializing in Maternal and Child Health Nursing (MCH), Dr. Famutimi currently focuses her efforts at the Neonatology Unit of UCH, where she has developed a profound commitment to reducing maternal and newborn mortality rates in Nigeria. Driven by her thirst for knowledge and skills enhancement, she applied for and successfully secured a postdoctoral fellowship from North-West University, Potchefstroom, South Africa. Notably, this award marks the inaugural edition for the Clinical Nursing Department of the University College Hospital.

Dr. Famutimi firmly believes that her extensive experience working in a premier tertiary healthcare institution, renowned for its excellence in training, research, and services, combined with her teaching and research background, has laid a solid foundation for her postdoctoral fellowship. This fellowship promises to equip her with advanced research capabilities, exceptional communication skills, and a collaborative spirit through engagements with multidisciplinary teams.

Also, she aims to impart the knowledge and skills acquired during the fellowship to enhance the research acumen of her colleagues at UCH, particularly in research methodologies, data analysis, and grant proposal writing.

She envisions that this fellowship will not only advance her professional development but also bolster UCH’s reputation as a trailblazer in healthcare excellence and research endeavors.
