Librarians in Kwara State have advocated resuscitation of libraries in Ministries Departments and Agencies to serve as true reservoir of information of their respective establishments
Librarian, Nigeria Stored Product Research Institute (NSPRI), Dr Akinade Adewojo dropped this hint at this year’s Library Week, organized by Nigerian Library Association, NLA , Kwara State Chapter themed, “Resuscitating Ministries Departments and Agencies Library System for Sustainable Development” held in Ilorin
Dr. Adewojo who was the lead resource person, expressed deep concern that Libraries in MDAs are not taking their rightful position of special libraries and have ignorantly been made dumping ground of sort.
He therefore tasked heads of MDAs to work out modalities towards resuscitating libraries under their watch to achieve desired results
Also Speaking, Mrs Evelyn Onah of the Central Bank of Nigeria, (CBN) Kwara State Branch, called for total overhauling of libraries in Ministries Departments and Agencies to endear clienteles to their services.
Represented by the Librarian, Michael Imodu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS), Ilorin, Comrade Joel Afolayan emphasized the need to beam searchlights to identify emerging challenges with a view to proffering workable solutions
In her welcome address, Chairperson, Nigerian Library Association (NLA), Kwara State Chapter, Dr. (Mrs)Florence Olabisi Ajani of Kwara State University, Malete pointed out that the choice of this year Library Week’s theme is aimed address challenges bedeviling MDAs Libraries
In his remark, Professor Abdulwahab Olarewaju Issa challenged librarians in special libraries to be ~idealistic~ innovative and trust worthy in order to be reckoned with by the helmsmen of their respective agencies
Dr. (Mrs) Oyeniyi, Librarian/Director, General Services, National Centre for Agricultural Mechanization (NCAM), Idofian enumerated huge opportunities abound in Librarianship in the nation sectors and urged participants to be more professional in all their undertakings to guard against inefficiency
In her goodwill message, Commissioner for Education and Human Capacity Development, Hajia Saadatu Maddibbo-Kawu represented by the Head, UNESCO Desk and Deputy Director, School Services, Mr Taiye Odedeji encouraged NLA to rekindle its sensitization awareness on reading culture to build the nation of intellectuals
This year’s Library Week attracted cross fertilization of ideas among professional librarians on the challenges and prospects of Librarianship in Nigeria and beyond
