Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has tasked Athletes representing the state in the forthcoming National Sports Festival in Ogun State tagged Gateway 2024 billed for May this year to do their best and make the state proud at the festival.
Governor Abdulrazaq dropped this hint today while receiving the Torch of Unity of the Festival from the National Sports Commission team led By Mrs Ikana Mbora at Government House Ilorin, the State Capital
Represented by his Deputy, Mr Kayode Alabi, the Governor described sports as a critical sector in strengthening National unity and pledged state support to the Athletes financially and morally to boost their moral.
Governor Abdulrazaq applauded National Sports Commission and and the host state, Ogun State for their determination towards hosting a befitting festival
In her remark, the Team Lead of National Sports Commission, Mrs Ikana Mbora said the Torch of Unity is holding in the state following the flag-off by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Abuja.
Mrs Mbora pointed out that the Torch of Unity has been held in Minna before coming to Kwara State while Kogi State is the next port of call.
Also Speaking, Executive Chairman, Kwara state Sports Commission, Coach Bolakale Adisa Mogaji said he had been participating in the National Sports Festival since 1973 and won countless medals for the State
Coach Mogaji announced that he will advise the state government for the state to bid for hosting the National Sports Festival as it has the facilities to host a successful festival.
He explained that the state has facilities to host most sports without getting out of the stadium complex.
In his submission, Director of Sports in Kwara State, Alhaji Ibrahim Bako welcomed the NSC team to state and assured that the State is ready to partake in the sporting event
The occasion attracted athletes, coaches and Board members of the sports Commission which included Honourable Abdullahi Yunusa Lade, Kwara North;, Hon Olarenwaju Elijah, Kwara South, Dele Abubakar (MON) and the Commission Secretary, Mr. Haruna Tsado.
