Lawmaker representing Ilorin West-Asa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Mukhtar Tolani Shagaya, has sponsored a bill seeking the establishment of the Federal College of Entrepreneurship and Skills Acquisition in Ilorin, the Kwara State Capital.
Hon. Shagaya made this known while addressing stakeholders, including the Chairman and Co-Chairman of Joint Senate and House Representatives Committee on Alternative Education, during a Public Hearing held on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at the National Assembly.
He said proposed legislation, titled “A Bill for an Act to Establish the Federal College of Entrepreneurship and Skills Acquisition and for Related Matters, is aimed at providing a framework for promoting innovation, vocational training, and enterprise development among Nigerian youths.
The lawmaker highlighted the urgent need to address youth unemployment and the widening skills gap in Nigeria’s labour market.
He stressed that the establishment of the College would serve as a hub for technical innovation, entrepreneurship development, and practical skills training.
According to him, the proposed institution will empower young Nigerians to create jobs rather than rely solely on government employment.
Hon Shagaya pointed out that the proposed institution would also enhance the growth of small businesses and drive community development within Asa- Ilorin West Federal Constituency.
The legislator explained that beyond stimulating local economic activities, the College would position Kwara State as a centre of excellence for entrepreneurship and skills development in North Central Nigeria.
He, therefore, appealed to the Committee to give the bill favourable consideration and ensure its passage for national interest.
