Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has clarified that there was no election held today at the Correspondents’ Chapel of the state council of the Union, which purportedly culminated in leadership change at the chapel.
It explained that the purported election violated the principles of Article Six Subsection Six of the NUJ Constitution, because it was not supervised by the leadership of the state council of NUJ as required.
In a statement issued in Ilorin today, the state NUJ Secretary, Olayinka Alaya described the purported election as a sham that lacks ingredients of the NUJ’s Constitution.
Alaya, who issued the statement on behalf of the state Chairman of NUJ, ‘Lanre Ahmed Abdullateef, warned that no legitimacy can be conferred on illegality that was designed to drag NUJ into the mud.
The statement urged organizations and members of the public not to transact businesses with the kangaroo executive that reportedly emerged from the purported election.
It said the National Secretariat of NUJ in Abuja has been duly informed of the development, saying that further directive would be communicated in due course.
