Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has described the Governorship overnorship election as the best organized by the Independent National Electoral Commission in the state so far.
The Governor said this in Awka, after being declared the winner of the November 8 Governorship election by INEC.
The Returning Officer and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin, Professor Edoba Omoregie, announced the result at INEC’s headquarters in Awka, declaring Governor Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance the winner with 422,664 votes.
Governor Soludo defeated his closest rival, Chief Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress, who scored 99,445 votes.
He expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu, describing him as a true democrat who demonstrated commitment to ensuring a free and fair election in Anambra.
The Governor commended the new INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, for the commission’s improved performance and lauded its ICT department for ensuring transparency through real-time upload of results on the IReV portal.
He noted that as of midnight, over 99 per cent of polling unit results had been uploaded on the portal, which enhanced public confidence in the process.
Governor Soludo also congratulated his fellow contestants, noting that politics in Anambra should remain a contest of ideas rather than enmity.
He extended a hand of fellowship to all participants in the election and emphasized that he is prepared to work with everyone for the greater good of the state.
Governor Soludo dedicated his victory to the people of Anambra, describing it as a historic mandate.
He observed that voter participation broke the 20 per cent ceiling for the first time, with 22 per cent of registered voters turning out to re-elect him with 73 per cent of the total votes.
The Governor pledged to justify the renewed trust and partnership of the electorate, assuring that his administration would intensify efforts to deliver more development projects for the state.
