National Youth Service Corps has distanced itself from a pamphlet circulating on social media that allegedly advises corps members to pay ransom if kidnapped.
In a statement issued today via its official X handle, the scheme described the document as fake and not an official NYSC publication.
It explained that although a consultant once presented similar material for consideration in 2021, the proposal was never approved.
The management added that the pamphlet in circulation does not reflect the NYSC’s policy on the security of staff or corps members and should therefore be ignored.
The NYSC reaffirmed its commitment to the safety of all corps members, stressing that it continues to work with security agencies and relevant stakeholders to strengthen protection across the country.
The clarification follows the re-emergence of the controversial document online, which has triggered renewed concerns over Nigeria’s security challenges, particularly the growing risk of kidnapping.
The pamphlet first attracted public attention in September 2021 when images of its content circulated widely on social media, including guidance urging travellers on high-risk routes to notify close contacts who could mobilise ransom payments in the event of an abduction.
