Chief Imam of Oro Kingdom, Dr. Sanusi Taofeeq Olamilekan Alaago, has debunked circulating claims that the Kwara State High Court halted this year’s Oro Day celebration.
He clarified that the court did not issue any order stopping the event, but merely adjourned ruling on the matter to 22nd December.
Dr. Sanusi made the clarification while reacting to what he described as deliberately fabricated misinformation being shared on Facebook and other social media channels by individuals he referred to as agents of confusion from Otun Oro community.
He explained that he personally attended the court session, along with other representatives, and at no point during the proceedings did the presiding judge issue a directive stopping the annual celebration.
According to the Chief Imam, the judge listened to submissions from the claimant’s counsel, the defence team, and the state’s legal representative, after which the matter was adjourned to 22nd of December for ruling.
Dr Sanusi stressed that misrepresenting court proceedings is not only unethical but illegal, warning that individuals spreading falsehood in the name of the court may face legal consequences.
He urged those behind the misinformation to immediately retract their posts or be prepared to substantiate their claims before the law.
Dr. Sanusi assured sons and daughters of the Oro Kingdom that there is no cause for alarm, encouraging them to continue their preparations for this year’s Oro Day celebration.
He emphasized that “no darkness shall overcome the light,” insisting that the communities that formed Oro Kingdom known as Ekun Mesan remains united, only few and selected individuals were fanning the ember of discord for their selfish and parochial interests.
The Chief Imam also extended warm invitations to all invited guests, including those within Nigeria and abroad, cultural ambassadors, captains of industry, and other distinguished personalities to join the community in celebrating Oro Day on the 24th of this month.
Also reacting to the spread of fake information on Facebook, a youth leader in Oro Kingdom, Adefila John Olalekan, condemned the actions of those deliberately attempting to mislead the public.
He described the circulation of unfounded claims as a calculated attempt to create tension within the community and undermine the efforts of both traditional and religious leaders who have worked tirelessly to maintain peace and order in Oro Kingdom.
Adefila urged youths across the community to remain vigilant and avoid being used as tools for spreading misinformation, especially on issues capable of destabilizing the kingdom.
He noted that the strength of Oro Kingdom lies in the unity of its people, and therefore called on every young person to verify information from credible sources before sharing it.
According to him, the youths must stand as ambassadors of truth and development, rather than instruments of confusion.
