Kwara Human Trafficking Taskforce Calls On Community Leaders To Cooperate With Govt To Fight Scourge

Kwara State Taskforce on Human Trafficking has called on Community leaders to cooperate with the state government in the fight against human trafficking in the state
Chairman of the Taskforce, Senior Ibrahim Sulyman made the call at a stakeholders meeting with leaders and representatives of the Zuru Community in his office.
Senior Sulyman who is Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of the state said the meeting id aimed at strengthening collaboration to design effective strategies to combat human trafficking in the state.
According to him, the government is committed to exposing and prosecuting traffickers through community-based address the menace.
The Chairman highlighted the existing legal framework prohibiting human trafficking and child exploitation.
He reiterated government’s commitment towards enforcing the laws to safeguard the victims.
He also revealed plans to design migrant information form to capture biodata of every individual for proper documentation and profiling.
Responding, representative of the Zuru Community, Emmanuel Sarkin Yaki, expressed gratitude to the state government for involving the community in the scheme of things.
He attributed human trafficking in community to poverty, lack of access to education, and limited economic opportunities.
The representative pledged the community’s willingness to work with government authorities to curb trafficking and promote community-based solutions.
