Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State has called on parents and guardians to refrain from discriminating against a girl child
Governor Abdulrazaq made the call at the International Girl Child Day Commemoration, organized by Kwara State Ministry of Women Affairs, themed “Girls Vision for the For the future” held in Ilorin.
Represented by the State Commissioner for Health, Doctor Amina El-Imam, The Governor said marginalization of a girl child is unacceptable and reaffirmed his administration resolve towards implementing child rights
Keynote Speaker, Professor Biola Adimula tasked female children to acquire quality education to forestall inequality and discrimination
Professor Adimula who an Ilorin-based Legal Luminary, emphasized importance girl child education to enable them compete favourably with their male counterparts
She identified poverty, cultural norms and inadequate infrastructure as encumbrances to the survival of female children
The Legal Luminary cautioned female children against, drug abuse, pre-marital sex, prostitution, alcoholism, cultism, fraud other ignoble acts capable regarding their future
In her welcome address, Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Opeyemi Afolashade urged Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to make recently completed ICT center to transform the lives of female children
Mrs Afolashade x-rayed prominent women who had contributed to the development of the nation, described girl child as an integral part of society with lofty ideas and intelligence
In her Remark, Wife of the Speaker, Kwara State House of Assembly, Mrs Saadat Danlad-Salihu counselled parents and guardians to be friends to their children and wards to insulate them against negative tendencies
Mrs Danlad-Salihu advised female children to be focused and shun immoral actions inimical to the realization of their dreams
First Lady of Kwara State, Ambassador Olufolake Abdulrazaq was represented by the State Commissioner for Solid Minerals, Doctor Abdul-afeez Abolore Alabi at the occasion
