Senator Saliu Mustapha, the lawmaker representing Kwara Central Senatorial District and Turaki of Ilorin Emirate, has formally resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kwara State.
The resignation, he said, followed weeks of consultation and a review of recent developments within the party.
In a statement personally signed by him, the Senator explained that the decision was not taken lightly.
He noted that it came after extensive engagements with stakeholders, supporters, and constituents across Kwara Central, as well as other well-meaning people of the state.
Senator Mustapha said politics must be anchored on people, principles and purpose.
According to him, when a political platform no longer aligns with those values and with the aspirations of the people being represented, the honourable path is to seek a new direction.
The Senator expressed appreciation to the National Leadership of the APC led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for the opportunities and relationships he enjoyed during his time in the party.
He assured his constituents, supporters, political associates and stakeholders in Kwara and beyond that his change of platform would not affect his commitment to service.
Senator Mustapha reiterated his resolve to continue working for the development of Kwara Central, Kwara State and Nigeria at large.
He said he remains steadfast in providing representation that prioritizes the welfare of the people.
The senator concluded the statement with words of gratitude to all those who have supported him over the years, pledging to sustain the trust reposed in him as he charts a new course in his political journey.
