Non Governmental Organization, Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria has called for end to the carnage arising from perennial petrol tankers accidents across in the Country

In a Press Statement today jointly signed by its National Coordinator, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi and National Secretary, Doctor Nasir Balogun, the Group identified movement of petrol tankers with products for long hours on long distances and inadequate supervision process by NUPENG as responsible for the sad situation

The Islamic Organization is saddened over Jigawa State accident which reportedly killed 170 people with several others still hospitalised for serious injuries sustained in the accident and advocated better ways of distributing petroleum products across the Country.

It pointed out that most petrol tanker drivers are not known to relax when they appeared exhausted, before continuing their journeys.

The Group charged Federal Ministry of Transportation and Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources to synergize to evolve better distribution strategies for petroleum distribution in Nigeria that would ‘nip-in-the-bud’ frequent fall of Petrol Tankers leading to killing of scores of people.

Sympathizing with government and people of Jigawa State over the last week’s incident, the Group urged Federal and State Governments to collaborate with Media Organizations in sensitization programmes and advertisements featuring the relay of jingles on the electronic media platforms in various local languages across the Nation on the dangers inherent in scooping of petroleum products by ignorant people whenever any petrol tanker falls on the roads
