Stakeholders and residents of Ilemona town in the Oyun local government area of Kwara state have said that the community will continue to work with law enforcement agencies to discourage issue of land grabbing in Ilemona and other communities in the Oyun local government.
The people, in a statement signed by Comrade Abdulrauf Abdullahi Opeyemi, also expressed commitment to uphold peace and harmony with neighbouring Offa community, among other areas.
The statement, which described the traditional ruler of the area, Oba Nurudeen Alowonle Yusuf, as an icon of peace, said that the monarch is dedicated to service to humanity.
The statement distanced the traditional ruler from recent allegations of land grabbing as alleged by some individuals in Offa town, said that the allegations are baseless and capable of damaging peaceful coexistence in the community.
The people, who said that the traditional ruler would never try to take what does not belong to him, added that he will never back any group or individual to cause unrest in his name.
They also encouraged those making the allegations to instead engage in constructive dialogue, listen to different perspectives, and work together with others to build a more harmonious and prosperous community and refrain from making such unfounded allegations in the future.
“Elemona of Ilemona is a law abiding king. We reject baseless allegations against the God-fearing monarch. I am confident that ELEMONA will continue to lead the ILEMONA community with God-given wisdom, integrity, and a deep commitment to the well-being of our people.
“If our ELEMONA were to use his influence, it’s always be to bring people’s together, build bridges to promote unity and understanding, as well as address the legitimate concerns of our community. Not to create unrest or divisions to the co- existence of people of Offa and Ilemona community.
“Ilemona community has been a beacon of tradition, culture, peace and natural beauty. Our ancestors have toiled on this land, cultivating its richness and passing down their knowledge and customs to us. The land is not just a physical space, but a sacred trust that holds the memories, stories, and legends of our people. It is our duty to safeguard this heritage for future generations, and we must not let it fall into the hands of people who would seek to exploit and desecrate it”.
