New Government House inaugurated in May 2023 by Former Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has been converted to hotel.
This is contained in a statement by his Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu.
According to his successor, Dr. Alex Otti, the structure is a security risk to his life and Government House officials because it was built inside a private residential area.
Governor Otti disclosed that the structure does not have a functional elevator, while the interior of the upper floors was in shambles without necessary facilities.
He said only the first floor of the Government House was completed and furnished, while the upper ones are exposed to many structural defects despite huge public funds spent on the project.
