Kwara State National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) hav raised concerns over safety of commuters along the Oko Olowo Expressway, Ilorin, as a federal government contractor has just removed the speed breakers the Kwara State Government recently installed.
This is contained in a statement, jointly endorsed by their Chairmen Alhaji Abdulrasak Ariwoola (NURTW) and Alhaji Abdulrahman Olayinka Onikijipa (RTEAN) in Ilorin.
The Statement expressed displeasure since the speed breakers have been removed by a contractor working on the road.
The Unions worried that this action may trigger a new wave of accidents and avoidable loss of lives on the road.
They urged the federal government to act urgently to restore the speed breakers and put in place other measures to protect lives on the expressway.
