Today is International Day of Peace, also known as World Peace Day.
The day first established in 1981 and observed in September 1982 dedicated to world peace, and specifically the absence of war and violence.
Commemorating the day, Network of
faith-based and non-governmental organizations tagged “Coalition For Global Peace” reminded world leaders on expectations of the peoples on
Israel and Global Peace in this year’s extraordinary General Assembly of the United Nations.
This is contained in a statement by the Group, endorsed by Lead Facilitator, Coalition for Global Peace (CGP),Tajudeen Alabede, Executive Chairman, Muslim Public Affairs Centre (MPAC), Nigeria Disu Kamor and Secretary General, Da‘wah Coordination Council of Nigeria (DCCN) Dr Ahmad Jumba captioned a “Vote For Global Peace”.
The Islamic Body urged world leaders to prioritize diplomacy over wars and use Israel-Iran war as a wakeup call to reform and strengthen the United Nations.
It expressed concern that the potency of the global body has been eroded by conflicting interests of global powers and advocated reforms to deliver a more effective and stronger UN.
The Coalition For Global Peace called for a lasting resolution to the age-long Palestine Question and a full-fledged State of Palestine should become a reality soonest.
According to the statement, it is relieving that more and more countries, international organisations and people of conscience around the world have shown courage to condemn the genocide taking place in Gaza and other occupied territories.
The Global Network For Peace charged UN to vote in favour of restoring the full rights of the Palestinian people and to formally recognize the State of Palestine as a sovereign nation, in accordance
with the provisions of longstanding UN resolutions.
