FIFA has announced the creation of a new annual honour, the FIFA Peace Prize, which will be presented for the first time during the 2026 World Cup draw in Washington, D.C.
The development was confirmed by FIFA President Gianni Infantino in a statement released ahead of his appearance at the America Business Forum in Miami, where U.S. President Donald Trump and Argentine football icon Lionel Messi were also scheduled to speak.
Although FIFA did not disclose the inaugural recipient, there has been speculation that the honour could go to President Trump, who is regarded as a close ally of Infantino and is expected to attend the December 5 draw at the Kennedy Centre.
Trump previously announced the draw date and venue during an event at the White House in August.
The US President has repeatedly argued that his diplomatic interventions qualify him for global peace recognition, though he was recently passed over for the 2024 Nobel Peace Prize, which went instead to Venezuelan opposition figure Maria Corina Machado.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup, the first to feature 48 teams, will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico from June 11 to July 19.
