Management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Iseyin campus, has approved a two-week suspension of activities following the death of a 200-level student who was run over by an unidentified commercial driver on the Iseyin/Saki Road, Oyo State.
The victim was a student of the Department of Agricultural Economics.
Other students, who staged a protest, set the commercial vehicle ablaze after discovering that the driver had fled the scene.
The University’s Registrar, Olayinka Balogun, confirmed the incident and stated that the suspension affects all students in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Renewable Natural Resources.
Academic activities are scheduled to resume on Monday, November 24, 2025, with essential service officers informed separately.
Mr Balogun also emphasised the need for students to remain safe, support one another, and honour the memory of their departed colleague.
This incident follows a previous case in January, when the Lagos State Government ordered the closure of Smiley Kids Montessori School, located in Heritage Place Estate, Sangotedo, after a swimming pool accident claimed the life of a two-year-old girl, Rapheala Ogbodo.
Both cases highlight temporary closures of educational institutions in response to student deaths, pending further investigations and administrative actions.
