Federal Government has directed the immediate shutdown of all Federal Government Colleges (Unity Schools) across the 36 states of the federation.
The decision was announced in a circular issued by the Director of Senior Secondary Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, Binta Abdulkadir.
This development follows the rising wave of insecurity, banditry, and kidnapping incidents recorded in different parts of the country.
Daily Source reports that the directive is aimed at safeguarding students and preventing further national embarrassment amid worsening security concerns.
In the last 72 hours alone, dozens of schoolchildren have been abducted in separate attacks in Kebbi and Niger States.
Similarly, armed men invaded a worship centre in Eruku, Kwara State, kidnapped several worshippers and left three people dead.
Government officials say more details on the closure directive will be released later.
