President Bola Tinubu has forwarded a three-man list of ambassadorial nominees to the Senate for confirmation.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the submission at Wednesday’s plenary, noting that more names are expected.
The nominees are Kayode Are (Ogun), Aminu Dalhatu (Jigawa), and Ayodele Oke.
Tinubu’s delay in appointing ambassadors since assuming office in 2023 has drawn criticism, especially after Nigeria was designated a Country of Particular Concern by the United States under Donald Trump.
Responding earlier to the concerns, Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar said Nigeria’s missions have remained fully functional under chargé d’affaires, stressing that diplomacy is not dependent on ambassadors alone and that appointments are solely the president’s prerogative.
