United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund, UNICEF is collaborating with Kwara State Government to ensure maternal and child health in the state.
UNICEF Kaduna Field Office, Dr Ahmad Tsofo said this while speaking at the Media Dialogue and MNCH Week and Human Papilloma Virus HPV intensification held in Ilorin.
He said UNICEF works to protect children’s rights Health, education and nutrition, sanitation.
Also Speaking, World Health Organization, WHO Public Health Officer, Mr Gwamson Dauda charged parents to immunize their children and wards to guard them against paralysis.
Mr Dauda said Kwara State is one of 21 states where stringent immunization would be carried out.
He urged education stakeholders to join the immunization campaign to correct the erroneous impression in the society.
Mr Dauda expressed deep concern over incessant attack on immunization teams and asked media to always create awareness on the vaccination.
Also Speaking, Immunization Officer in Kwara State, Mrs Sarat Yunus said Kwara State is targeting 0-9 and pregnant women for immunization.
Mrs Yunus explained no fewer than 4million children are expected to be immunized in Nigeria with Kwara State targeting 800, 000 children across the 16 Local Government Areas Areas of the state
The State Immunization Officer described polio as one of the causes of paralysis in the Country.
Health Specialist, Dr Ahmed Alebiosu tasked media to shoulder the responsibility of awareness on Immunization.
Dr Alebiosu also stressed the need for media practitioners to disallow disinformation in their reportage to achieve desired results.
