Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has launched an investigation into an air operation that reportedly killed two residents and injured six others in Kurigi community, Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State.
The incident occurred during a military operation targeting bandits in the area.
Residents said a surveillance helicopter hovered over the community for several minutes before gunfire reportedly hit people inside their homes.
A community member, Suleiman Sanusi, said the incident triggered fear among residents, forcing many to flee to nearby Bangi town and other locations.
He described the attack as unexpected and called on authorities to investigate and provide medical assistance to the injured.
Reacting to the development, the Director of Public Relations and Information of the Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, confirmed that an investigation team has been activated to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
