Ilorin-based Opthalmologist, Dr Abubakar Ayinla has clarified that use of eyedrops do not beak fast.
Dr Ayinla who is the Permanent Secretary, Kwara State Ministry of Environment dropped this hint while delivering a lecture on the topic ” Glaucoma: Causes, Signs Symptoms And Prevention” at the ongoing Ramadan Lecture Series organized by Islamic Missionaries Association of Nigeria IMAN in Ilorin.
He described the assertion instructing patients not to apply eyedrops while fasting as untrue with no basis in the medical profession.
The Opthalmologist charged glaucoma patients to always take their drugs as prescribed before, during and after fasting.
The Medical Expert pointed out that poor environmental sanitation, negligence and quack patronage could worsen the condition of glaucoma patients capable leading to terminal blindness.
Dr Ayinla therefore encouraged the populace to always embark on regular medical checkup to forestall them from contracting the ailment.
He specifically counseled parents and guardians to meticulously refrain from slapping their children and wards to insulate them against glaucoma other forms of eye diseases.
During the lecture, participants benefited from free eye test carried out by a private eye clinic based in Ilorin.
Meanwhile, the lecture continues today with the topic ” Social Justice: An Effective Means Of Achieving Peaceful Coexistence: Islamic Point Of View” to be delivered by Khadi, Kwara State Shariah Court of Appeal, Ilorin, Justice Abdulraheem Ahmad Sayi at IMAN Centre New Yidi Road Ilorin beginning at half past four in the evening.
