A Non-Governmental Organisation, Ilorin Emirate Safety Education and Advocacy Initiative(IESAi) has sought for partnership with critical stakeholders to tackle insecurity challenges in Kwara State.
Speaking to Journalists today in Ilorin after courtesy visits to National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), and the Chairman of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), the Coordinator of the body, Prince Suleiman Yerima Sulu-Gambari, stated that the initiative was established to sensitise the public on measures to forestall insecurity challenges.
Suleiman noted that security is the responsibility of all the citizens, hence the need for people to be educated on ways they could effectively be part of the solution amid the kidnapping, banditry, terrorism and other insecurity challenges battling the country.
As part of its broader effort to tackle the menace of insecurity, the organisation also revealed plans to organise security conferences, town hall meetings, seminars and workshop, including engagement with youth formations and centres of learning.
Sulaiman, a retired DSS officer also called on the Kwara State government to increase its efforts in tackling security challenges, adding that “security is a serious business” and the government need to put in a lot of resources to tackle it.
Earlier during a courtesy visit to the secretariat of RTEAN, the Coordinator described the transport workers as critical stakeholders in the fight against insecurity which also affects their business.
According to him, the collaboration with the commuters will help further enhance security education for the transportation sector which he described as an integral part of the society.
In his remark, the Chairman of the RTEAN, Alhaji Abdulrahman Olayinka Onikijipa noted that there is no substitute for peace, hence the need to collaborate with the initiative.
On his own part, the Chairman of Kwara State Branch of NURTW, Alhaji Abdulrazaq Ariwoola commended the brain behind initiative and urged its leadership and members to remain focused.

Amongst other things, the Ilorin emirate safety education and advocacy initiative also seeks to reduce social vices like cult-related violence, theft and robbery, cybercrime through sensitization and public awareness.
