Maiden Faculty Lecture organized by Faculty of Nursing Sciences, Federal University Otuoke holds on Tuesday 19th of May, 2026.
The Faculty Lecture themed ” Global Health Initiatives: Lessons From The Field ” will take place at Faculty of Nursing Sciences Auditorium of the University.
Professor Oluwatosin Olateju of Helene Fuld School of Nursing, Coppin State University, United States of America is expected to be the Guest Speaker
The Resource Person is a dynamic Nursing Professor at Coppin State University. In 2023, she launched the Coppin State University Public Health Association and currently serves as the Primary Faculty Advisor.
In 2025, Prof. Olateju established the Helene Fuld School of Nursing International Student Resource Program and currently provides one-on-one mentorship to foreign-born nursing students, enhancing their academic success and NCLEX outcomes.
Earlier in her career, she worked as a clinical nurse and later transitioned to Community and Public Health Nursing, leading
programs at the local, state, and federal levels.
Professor Olateju’s research spans mentorship in nursing education, community engaged public health, global health, and health policy, with a particular emphasis on HIV prevention, food insecurity, tobacco use, and strengthening public health systems through advocacy and partnerships.
Also in 2019, the Professor founded Food and Care for All (FCFA), a nonprofit organization that promotes food security, health education, and access to healthcare services for underserved communities in Maryland and Sub-Saharan Africa.
In 2023, she was appointed by Governor Wes Moore as Commissioner and Co-chair of Maryland’s inaugural Commission on Public Health and continues to serve in that role.
Prof. Olateju earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Science in Community & Public Health Nursing from the University of Maryland Baltimore.
She holds a Doctor of Public Health degree from Morgan State University, specializing in Health Policy and Management.
As a Fellow of the American Public Health Association-Kaiser Permanente Community Health Program, Prof. Olateju has published and presented extensively at international, national, and regional levels.
Throughout her career, she has received numerous prestigious honors, including an Honorable Mention in Teaching Award from Coppin State University (2025);the Feleta Wilson Social Justice Award from the American Public Health Association (2024); the Public Health Leadership Award from the Maryland Public Health Association (2024); and the Top Nurses Award from Baltimore Magazine (2020).

The Faculty envisioned collaboration between the two universities, opportunity for faculty and students exchange programs and joint grants to conduct cutting edge research among others.
