Today is Arafat Day, the day in which pilgrims from all over the world currently in Saudi Arabia to perform holy pilgrimage known as Hajj, must be present in Arafat to perform the most important Hajj duties and responsibilities.

Two million pilgrims from all Countries the world-over are performing this year’s Hajj with about 50,000 pilgrims from Nigeria.

In this regard, the Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria has called on Nigerian Muslims who are fasting today to as a religious obligation re-dedicate themselves to the cause of Islam by ensuring that they stand clear of all evils and bad behaviours as enjoined in Islam.

A Press Statement released and signed by the National Coordinator of the Group Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, called on all those involved in creating insecurity in Nigeria to stop the devilish act of terrorism, killings, banditry, insurgency, kidnapping for ransom, armed-robbery and all forms of crimes, stating further that involvement in these terrible acts is a sign of disbelief in God which attracts highest punishment on the day of Judgement.

The Group condemned those informants and those providing food items, supply fuel and other needs to the criminals terrorising Nigerians all over the Country and described them as criminals.

According to him, the punishment given to the perpetrators of crimes need to be meted out to them.

Turning to the Federal, States and Local Governments, the Media Group stated that Leaders in all the three tiers of Government must realize that security of the people and their property is their most important duty, appealing to them to fast-track their proactive strategies against these criminals with modern methods of gathering and using of intelligence such as drones, increase in the security personnels in Army, Air Force, Navy, the Police and NSCDC to bring the insecurity crises to an immediate end.

MMWG stated that regular reports that criminals are more armed highly with sophisticated weapons than our security forces has continued to sound ridiculous, the low number of police stations and personnel in the hinterlands and lack of logistics such as vehicles and motorcycles for them continue to create fears in the masses.

While commending the security forces for the success achieved so far, the Group called on the Minister of Defence and all Service Chiefs to note that the current waves of insecurity have significantly challenged them and called on them to do much more to achieve lasting security in Nigeria.

On Eid-Kabir Celebration scheduled for tomorrow, the Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria called on all Security Forces in all the States and FCT to be battle-ready for criminals that may want to wreak havoc on Muslim worshippers in all the Praying Grounds…so as to capture and deal with them decisively.

While wishing all Nigerians Happy Eid-Kabir Celebrations, the Group appealed to the Federal and State Governments in Nigeria to address the issue none execution of court judgement of death sentences on over 2000 prisoners who have lost their cases to Supreme Court Level.

It pointed out that the continued delay of execution of court judgement on the condemned criminals portends danger for Nigeria.
