Kwara Begins 2026 Summer Coding, Digital Literacy Programme

Kwara State Government has commenced the 2026 Summer Edition of its Coding and Digital Literacy Programme, extending an initiative that has trained thousands of public secondary school students in digital and technology skills since its launch in 2024.

The programme, coordinated by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Digital Innovations, resumed on Monday across participating public schools in the state, with students beginning another six-week intensive training in coding, digital literacy and emerging technologies.

Participants on the opening day underwent revision classes and practical sessions covering Python programming, web development with HTML, CSS and Bootstrap, introductory Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence as a coding assistant, frontend development, Microsoft Excel for data analysis and typing skills.

Facilitators guided students through hands-on classroom exercises designed to strengthen critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills, while exposing them to the practical application of Artificial Intelligence in education and software development.

Daily Source recalls that the programme was first introduced in 2024, training about 700 students across six centres.

It was expanded in 2025 and integrated into the academic calendar of public secondary schools, reaching 54 schools across Kwara’s 16 local government areas while retaining its annual summer edition.

According to the state government, over 5,800 students have so far benefitted from the initiative, receiving training in coding, digital literacy, innovation and other emerging technologies.

The 2026 Summer Edition, described as the third summer edition of the programme, will feature advanced coding modules, collaborative learning sessions, innovation challenges and project-based learning, ending with a Grand Project Exhibition where participants will showcase technology solutions developed during the training.

The government said the initiative aligns with its commitment to developing digital skills among young people and preparing them for opportunities in the evolving global technology ecosystem.
