The 8th Kwara State Sports Festival today begun at George Innih Stadium Complex, Ilorin the State Capital with the lighting of T Unity Torch as a powerful symbolic flame to herald the Kwara State Sports Festival to promote peace, solidarity, and sportsmanship.
The Torch of Unity was rotated among the captains and representatives of the participating Local Government Areas in the state.
The unveiling of the sports mundia also witnessed hoisting flags of the Local Governments featuring in the weeklong sport event.
Speaking at the Torch of Unity, Executive Chairman, Kwara State Sports Commission and Chairman Main Organizing Committee, Coach Bolakale Adisa Mogagi said the ongoing Sports Festival represents the mini Olympic.
Coach Mogagi said the sports festival is geared towards to showcasing talents in the 16 Local Government Areas of the State
According to him, Kwara State wants to people to know that the dominance of sport is not within Kwara Central as Kwara has talents across the 3 Senatorial Districts.
He applauded Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for the comprehensive renovation of George Innih Stadium Complex to host the sports tournament.
Earlier, Chairman, Local Organizing Committee, Dr Steve Olarinoye highlighted the itinerary of the sports festival including the Torch of Unity, Opening Ceremony and sporting activities proper.
Dr Olarinoye pointed that major objective of the festival is harvest best athletes across the participating Local Government Areas.
Meanwhile, the Official Opening Ceremony Kwara State Sports Festival holds tomorrow at George Innih Stadium Complex Ilorin beginning at 3 O’clock in the afternoon.
