PAPHNON Elects New National Executives, Dr. Iyaye Aseminaso Emerges Chairman

 Professional Association of Public Health Nurses of Nigeria (PAPHNON) has elected a new National Executive Council to steer the affairs of the Association, with Dr. Iyaye David Aseminaso emerging as the new National Chairman.

The new leadership emerged during the Association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Abuja as part of the 6th SPHPN & 37th PAPHNON Joint Conference, bringing together public health nursing professionals, academics, policymakers and other stakeholders from across Nigeria.

The election ushers in a 10-member National Executive Council comprising professionals with experience across public health nursing, healthcare practice, academia and health-sector leadership.

5. Dr. Salome Nwogu — Assistant Secretary
6. Aisha Shehu Adamu — Treasurer
7. Vera Usigbe — Financial Secretary
8. Adesina Odunayo — Auditor I
9. Laraba Kigbu — Auditor II
10. Ibrahim Alhassan — Public Relations Officer (PRO)

The newly elected Executive members expressed their appreciation to members of PAPHNON for the confidence reposed in them and reaffirmed their commitment to serving the Association and advancing the role of public health nurses in Nigeria’s healthcare system.

The emergence of the new leadership comes at a significant time for Nigeria’s health sector, with increasing attention to preventive healthcare, community-based health services, maternal and child health, health promotion, disease prevention, health equity and universal health coverage.

Public health nurses remain strategically positioned at the community level to promote health, prevent disease, provide health education, support early detection of health conditions, mobilise communities and facilitate linkage to appropriate healthcare services.

The new PAPHNON leadership is expected to work collaboratively with members, government institutions, policymakers, academic institutions, development partners and other professional bodies to strengthen public health nursing practice and contribute to improved health outcomes across the country.

The Association also acknowledged the contributions of the outgoing leadership and expressed its commitment to building on the progress achieved by previous administrations.

The new National Executive Council called for continued unity, cooperation and active participation from members as the Association begins a new chapter.

The leadership further looks forward to strengthening professional collaboration and ensuring that public health nursing continues to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s evolving healthcare landscape.
