Kwara Qur’an Contest: Ilorin West’s Tukur Abdul Emerges Champion

Tukur Abdul from Ilorin West Local Government has emerged overall winner of this year Kwara state Qur’an memorization competition.

Abdul emerged victorious in the first category memorization of complete Qur’an, Tafsir and Qiraat.

The winners were announced at the Grand Finale and Closing Ceremony of the state Qur’an Competition took place at George Innih Stadium Complex, Ilorin.

Tukur Abdul bulldozed his closest challenger Haroon Hassan from Ilorin West Local Government that secured second position while Abdulwaaris Ismail from Offa Local settled for third position.

In the female category, Jemeelat Tijani from Ilorin South came first in the female category of memorization of complete Qur’an after defeating Semeeyah Idrees from Asa Local Government, Habeebat Abdulazeez from Offa Local and Aisha Raji of Ifelodun Local Government respectfully

In his sermon, the Guest Speaker, National Missioner Ansaru-deen Society of Nigeria, Shaikh Abdulrahman Ahmad urged Muslims to ensure those memorizing Qur’an are well tutored both in learning and characters to prevent prevent them from the distraction of the Modern digital age.

Shaikh Ahmad advised Muslims to shun the idea of getting attached to the digital noise in the use of phones and other digital devices

He urged Muslims to put in place concrete steps to prevent the extinction of those who memorize Qur’an and maintained the standard.

The Cleric advised parents to guide their children in the use of modern digital devices to prevent them from getting into danger.

He said those who memorize the Qur’an should be multi disciplinary to stand the contemporary challenges.

Shaikh Ahmad called for the introduction of incentives for Qur’an memorizers to ensure their sustenance.

In his speech the chairman of the occasion,Vice Chancellor Kwara state University ,Malete, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh commended the organisers for their commitment in organising the competition.

He advised the participants to put in their best in ensuring their success at the final stage.

Professor Jimoh appealed to wealthy individuals to support the initiative to enable the participants and organisers do better.

Earlier in his address of welcome the chairman,Kwara state committee on National Qur’an Recitation Competition ,Alhaji Shehu Abdulgafar said the national competition will be hosted by Jigawa state government in collaboration with Centre for Islamic Studies,Usman Dan Fodio University Sokoto.

He said the event is a culmination of various painstaking and contested stages of the competition which started from ward levels to local government levels in which winners of this level competed with their peers at each senatorial level.

According to him, the novel idea is to improve quality of the participants through ensuring series of competitions to prepare them for the final stage of the competition.

Alhaji Abdulgafar explained that the innovation has yielded positive results.

He thanked the state government for it’s support to the committee in ensuring success of the programme.

The Chairman appealed to the state governor to as a matter of urgency redeemed his pledge on the allocation of a piece of land to the committee for the establishment of a centre for Qur’an memorization in the state.

Alhaji Abdulgafar also urged the state government to provide them with a bus to ease their movement during the period of the competition.

In his address the Chief Imam of Ilorin, Imam Muhammad Bashir Dasuki, said Qur’an was ordained for Muslims to serve as guide in their life and the hear after.

He said the importance of the holy Qur’an to human cannot be overemphasized.

On her part ,the Chairperson of the occasion, Hajiya Fatimah Shuaibu charged parents to raise a generation that recites the Qur’an beautifully, understands it deeply and lives by it’s teaching sincerely.

She also encouraged parents to continue to invest in the spiritual,moral , intellectual and professional development of their children.

Meanwhile, winners of the just concluded Qur’an memorization are to represent Kwara State in the National Qur’an Recitation Competition in Dutse, Jigawa State Capital billed for December this year
