Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has said the All Progressives Congress (APC) is targeting more than two million votes for President Bola Tinubu in the state during the 2027 presidential election.
Bago announced the target on Monday in Minna while inaugurating the 525-member APC Presidential and Governorship Campaign Council.
The governor said the party would strengthen its grassroots mobilisation network across polling units, wards, local government areas and the state to achieve its electoral target.
He explained that although the party could secure more than one million votes through its existing mobilisation structure, it was determined to exceed that figure in the next general election.
Bago disclosed that the broader political network supporting the campaign had grown to more than 100,000 members, describing it as a platform for mobilising voters ahead of the elections.
He also announced plans to commission the APC North-Central Presidential Campaign Office in Minna the following week, with President Tinubu, Vice-President Kashim Shettima and other party leaders expected to attend.
Speaking at the inauguration, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said the APC would campaign on the achievements of Tinubu’s administration, particularly its economic reforms, infrastructure development and efforts to transform the country.
Idris expressed confidence that the performance of the Federal Government and APC-led state governments would form the centrepiece of the party’s campaign ahead of the 2027 elections.
He maintained that the Tinubu administration had made progress in addressing longstanding economic challenges, strengthening public finances, attracting investment and laying the foundation for sustainable economic growth.
The minister described the APC as a strong contender in the forthcoming elections, citing the performance of the President and governors elected on the party’s platform.
Idris also expressed appreciation for his appointment to the Presidential Campaign Council and the Niger State Governorship Campaign Council, pledging to contribute to the party’s preparations.
He commended Bago for his leadership and efforts to strengthen the party’s structures and mobilise political stakeholders across Niger State.
The inauguration brought together APC leaders, political officeholders and other stakeholders as the ruling party intensified preparations for the 2027 general elections.
