House of Representatives has announced plans to conduct an investigative hearing into the management of over $4.6 billion in health grants received by Nigeria from the Global Fund and USAID between 2021 and 2025.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Spokesman of the House, Rep. Akin Rotimi, mnipr, and made available to journalists.
According to the statement, the probe will be handled by the House Committee on Infectious Diseases, following the adoption of a motion to examine the utilisation of funds allocated for the fight against HIV, tuberculosis, malaria, and for strengthening Resilient and Sustainable Systems for Health (RSSH).
The House Spokesman noted that the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, GCON, will serve as Chief Host of the session, while the Chairman of the Committee on Infectious Diseases, Rep. Amobi Godwin Ogah, will host the engagement.
He stated that the investigative hearing is scheduled for Monday, November 10, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., in Conference Hall, Room 231, 2nd Floor, House of Representatives New Building, National Assembly Complex, Abuja.
Hon Rotimi added that the exercise will bring together key stakeholders from relevant ministries, donor agencies, civil society organisations, and healthcare professionals to review the disbursement, management, and impact of the health grants.
He explained that the outcome of the investigation would help improve legislative oversight, strengthen accountability mechanisms, and reinforce Nigeria’s reputation as a responsible partner in global health initiatives.
The House Spokesman reaffirmed the legislature’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and effective oversight in ensuring that all public and donor funds deliver measurable benefits for Nigerians.
