AbdulRasaq Abubakar Toyin University Ganmo Holds Induction For Newly Recruited Academic Staff

AbdulRazaq Abubakar Toyin University (AATU), Oke Ogba Ganmo, has held a comprehensive one-day induction programme for its newly recruited academic staff, during which the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. AbdulRauf Ambali, reiterated the institution’s position to uphold excellence, integrity, and global academic standards.
In his opening remarks, the Vice-Chancellor warmly welcomed the inductees, described their appointments as call to service in shaping minds and advancing knowledge.
He emphasized that AATU, guided by its motto “A Private Not-for-Profit University, for Global Citizenship,” is committed to building an academic community driven by innovation, discipline, and impactful research.
He charged the new lecturers to uphold professionalism, embrace digital learning tools, and demonstrate unwavering dedication to teaching, research, and community service.
The induction programme featured several seasoned academics and administrators who served as resource persons.
Speaking on “Duties and Responsibilities of Lecturers,” Dr. Lambe Adeshina of the Kwara State University, Malete, urged the University to prioritize research as a major indicator of global ranking, and stressed that examination questions must possess content validity to promote fairness, accuracy, and academic quality.
The Director of Academic Planning at AATU, Prof. Zakariyah Mokshood, who presented a paper on “Rules and Regulations of Examination/University Offences and Punishment”, cautioned lecturers against misconducts capable of jeopardising their academic career, urging strict adherence to established guidelines and ethical practices.
In her lecture titled “Course Outline, Segments, Contents and Significance,” Prof. Medinah Abdul Raheem of the University of Ilorin, highlighted the importance of proficiency in communication, proper lesson preparation, effective classroom management, innovation, and being mindful of behavioural objectives in the Lesson Note Preparation.
She stated that a course content serves as a “social contract between lecturers and students,” underscoring its critical role in guiding academic delivery.
An ICT expert and Director of the Centre for Innovation, Technology and Research at Kwara State University Malete, Dr. Rafiu Isiaka Mope, discussed “Management of University Portal and Leveraging the Computer Age for Learners”.
Dr Mope emphasized the need for lecturers to harness technology to enhance learning outcomes and administrative efficiency.
The Coordinator of Admissions at AATU, Dr. Akeem Saraki, spoke on the “Roles of Level Advisers, Examination Officers and Staff Advisers” and articulated the core functions and challenges associated with these roles, offering practical solutions to strengthen student support systems within the University.
On “Familiarity with Conditions of Service and University Regulations,” Dr. Adelodun Muhammed Ajao, a Deputy Registrar from the University of Ilorin currently on sabbatical at AATU, discussed the structure of University organs, appointments, conditions of service, leave, promotion processes, and disciplinary measures, and called for greater synergy between academic and non-academic staff to fast-track the attainment of the University’s foundational goals.
In his vote of thanks, the Registrar of AATU, Mr. Emmanuel Obafemi, emphasized the centrality of Personnel Management in achieving institutional objectives, and expressed confidence that the newly inducted lecturers were now well acquainted with the University’s operational framework and would discharge their duties with diligence and commitment.
Participants applauded the University authorities for organising the induction, noting that the programme had equipped them with the knowledge and skills required for effective performance as lecturers in the institution. They expressed confidence about contributing meaningfully to AATU’s growth and academic excellence.
