The labour movement in Kwara State has lauded Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his speedy composition and inauguration of the state tripartite committee for the consequential adjustment on the new minimum wage of N70,000 for workers in the country.
The movement, which consists of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) and Joint Negotiation Council (JNC) said it was heartening that AbdulRazaq set a pace as the first state Governor to have inaugurated minimum wage tripartite committee at sub-national.
The state NLC Chairman, Comrade Muritala Saheed Olayinka and his TUC and JNC counterparts, Comrade Abdulrahman Olayinka Onikijipa, and Comrade Saliu Oluwole Suleiman respectively said this in a joint statement issued in Ilorin on Thursday.
It assured the state government and Governor AbdulRazaq of the labour movement’s commitment and dedication to the assignment.
The labour unions expressed gratitude to the Governor for his unalloyed support to the movement, promising that it would be reciprocated in due diligence.
It also applauded the commitment of the Governor to the welfare of workers in the state.
“The organized labour movement in Kwara State, under the auspices of NLC, TUC and JNC, particularly, the newly inaugurated minimum wage tripartite committee members (Trade Union Side) wishes to show our profound gratitude and sincere appreciation to our amazing, dogged and ebullient Governor of Kwara State, His Excellency AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for his commitment toward the welfare of Kwara State workers regarding the composition and prompt inauguration of the new minimum wage tripartite committee.
“This good development awakens our sense of appreciation to further motivate His Excellency, being the first Governor in Nigeria to inaugurate minimum wage tripartite committee at sub-national in the country.
“We are assuring the state government and His Excellency of our commitment and dedication to this great assignment and responsibility bestowed on the movement”, the labour unions said.
This reports that Governor AbdulRazaq, a few days ago, inaugurated tripartite committee to work on the consequential adjustment for the new minimum wage of N70,000 for workers.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recently assented to the new minimum wage bill for immediate implementation for workers across the country while state Governors and organized private sector are also to effect it immediately on the monthly salaries of their workforce.
The presidential assent on the bill was sequel to its passage in the National Assembly.
