Parents and guardians have been advised to encourage and support their children with keen interest in dancing profession.
Nigeria’s Renowned Dance Icon, Doctor Kafayat Oluwatoyin Shafau, popularly known as Kaffy, gave the advice during the 10th Annual International Conference of the Association of Dance Scholars and Practitioners of Nigeria (ADSPON) held at Ojaja University, Ilorin.
Dr Kaffy, emphasized that dance is not just an art form but also a viable career path that can contribute significantly to the Nation’s Creative Economy.
She noted that with proper guidance and professional training, talented youths could achieve success and global recognition through dance.
According to her, parents need to understand that dance has evolved beyond mere entertainment as it is now a multi-billion naira industry that offers opportunities in performance, education, therapy, and cultural preservation.
The celebrated Choreographer and Fitness Expert further encouraged educational institutions to integrate dance and other performing arts into their curricula to nurture young talents from an early stage.
The Conference was themed “The concept of Detty December ” And the Emerging trends in the practice of dance in contemporary Nigeria/Africa.
