Ilorin Emirate Community of (KWASU) has congratulated Professor Shehu AbdulGaniyu Salau on his appointment as the Pioneer Director of the Centre for Agricultural Sustainability and Transformation.
The appointment, which takes effect from November 17, 2025, was conveyed in a letter dated November 18, 2025, signed by the university Registrar, Dr. Kikelomo W. Salle, and approved by the Vice-Chancellor, .
In a congratulatory statement by its General Secretary, Dr Abdullahi A. Bakare, under the leadership of Professor Ibrahim Laro Abubakar, the Emirate noted that the appointment came shortly after Professor Salau was re-elected as Chairman of (ASUU-KWASU) for a second term on November 20, 2025.
The statement highlighted that the Vice-Chancellor was present at the election to cast his vote in solidarity.
The Ilorin Emirate Community expressed satisfaction that, despite his strong antecedents in unionism, Professor Salau has consistently been found fit to combine union leadership with administrative responsibilities.
The statement clarified that this is not the first instance in which the academic has carried out dual responsibilities at the same time, noting that he has previously balanced administrative duties alongside union roles without incident.
It enumerated his past service in several strategic positions within the university, including Sub-Dean of his faculty, Head of Department, member of the Senate Business Committee, as well as chairman and member of various statutory and ad hoc committees.
According to the statement, his capacity to function effectively in both administrative and union roles without any recorded conflict underscores the level of confidence and goodwill he commands from the University’s management and workforce alike.
The Ilorin Emirate Community described him as a unifying figure within the institution, stressing that his ability to operate across traditionally opposing divides reflects integrity, trust, and a leadership approach that prioritises collaboration over confrontation.
The Community also praised the Vice-Chancellor’s leadership, describing it as thoughtful and inclusive, and noted that the appointment reflects a deliberate effort to acknowledge competence and reward excellence within the university system.
It further conveyed appreciation for the Vice-Chancellor’s consistent support and expressed optimism that similar inclusive administrative appointments would be sustained in the future.
