Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) will this Saturday (March 14th, 2026) host its annual Ramadan Iftar, bringing together journalists, government officials, and key stakeholders to reflect on the role of the media in addressing national challenges.
The event, according to a statement jointly issued by the Chairman of the 2026 Iftar Committee and Vice Chairman of the Council, Hajia Fatimah Binta Abubakar Mora, and the committee’s Secretary, Abeeb Oredunni, is scheduled to hold at the Conference Hall of the NUJ Press Centre, Offa Road, GRA, Ilorin, beginning from 4pm.
The statement said the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development in Kwara State, Dr Lawal Olalekan Olohungbebe, is expected to keynote the event.
According to the organisers, the commissioner will speak on the theme: “Leadership, Media, and the Fight Against Insecurity in Society,” a topic considered timely amid growing national conversations on security, governance and responsible journalism.
The annual Ramadan gathering, the statement noted, is part of the NUJ’s efforts to strengthen professional solidarity among journalists while encouraging reflection on the ethical responsibilities of the media in promoting peace, unity and national development.
It added that the event would also provide a platform for dialogue on how the Nigerian media can deepen its role in supporting government and security agencies through accurate reporting, public enlightenment and the promotion of national values.
The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Kwara State, Ahmed ‘Lanre Abdullateef, who will serve as host, is expected to lead members and invited guests at the Iftar session, which traditionally combines prayer, lecture and networking among media professionals.
Organisers urged members of the union and invited guests to attend promptly, noting that the annual Ramadan Iftar has become an important platform for strengthening professional unity within the media community while contributing to broader national conversations on security, leadership and development in Nigeria.
