Women have been described as vital pillars in strengthening family bonds and fostering a supportive, loving and harmonious society.
The Coordinator of the Muslim Ladies Circle at University of Ilorin, Hajia Muheebah Yusuf, stated this while delivering a lecture titled “The Muslim Woman: Her Responsibilities” at the ongoing Ramadan Lecture Series organised by the Islamic Missionaries Association of Nigeria in Ilorin, Ilorin.
Hajia Yusuf said the roles played by Muslim women as mothers, wives, daughters and sisters remain crucial both within the family and in the wider society. According to her, these responsibilities should not be underestimated, particularly in nurturing stable homes and contributing positively to community development.
She noted that an ideal Muslim woman should serve as a role model to her children, support her husband and actively nurture the next generation through proper moral and religious guidance.
The guest lecturer also encouraged Muslim women to remain steadfast in advocating for women’s empowerment and in breaking barriers that hinder their growth and survival in society.
In her remarks, a former Deputy Vice-Chancellor of University of Ilorin, Prof. Sidikat Ijaiya, advised couples to cultivate mutual respect, empathy and the fear of Allah as essential ingredients for a peaceful and crisis-free marriage.
Similarly, the Dean of the Faculty of Information and Communication Sciences at University of Ilorin, Prof. Saudat Sallah Abdulbaki, urged Muslim women to remain committed to contributing meaningfully to national development.
Meanwhile, the Ramadan lecture series continues today with a presentation titled “Nurturing the Next Generation: Islamic Child Upbringing in a Changing World.” The lecture will be delivered by Ibrahim Rushdi Abiodun, principal of a private school in Ilorin, at the IMAN Centre, New Yidi Road, starting at 4:30 p.m.
