Ilorin-based Islamic Preacher, Alhaji Muhammad Orilowo has attributed increasing wave of poverty in the society to affluents defiance to administration of Zakat.
Alhaji Orilowo gave this indication while delivering a lecture on the topic”Zakat Of Money: A General Guide” at the ongoing Ramadan Lectures organized by Darul-Hidayyah Centre, Ilorin.
He noted that the purpose of Zakat ordained by Allah is to uplift the living standards of underprivileged and described non compliance of Zakat as flagrant disobedience to Allah’s injunctions.
The Cleric pointed out that Zakat could be paid from gold, silver and money as certain percentage unambiguously stated by Allah to be allocated to indigent people to improve their welfare.
He specifically confirmed that the wealth Zakat could be paid from in the contemporary society should worth at least 20 Million Naira and be allocated to an individual to change his life to be self reliant.
According to him, Zakat is typically 2.5% of excess wealth (savings) that has been held for a year, if it exceeds the Nisab threshold.
Alhaji Orilowo charged wealthy Muslims to adhere strictly to the institution of Zakat to reduce poverty to its lowest ebb.
In his remark, Chairman of the Occasion, Mallam Abdulraheem Abdulbaki described the institution of Zakat as the most unpopular pillar unlike oneness of Allah, five daily obligatory prayers, Hajj and holy month of Ramadan.
Mallam Abdulbaki who is the General Manager, Kwara State Public Procurement Agency, however challenged Muslim Clerics to always project administration of Zakat in their sermons to sensitize Muslim Ummah.
Also Speaking, Founder Darul-Hidayyah Centre, Engineer Yasar Remilekun explained that the topic was carefully selected to educate the Muslims on the general principles of Zakat to reverse the ugly trend.
Meanwhile the lecture continues today with the topic”Tafsir Suratul Nahl Verses 89-91″ to be delivered by Dr Abdulrahauf Onikahun at Oloje beginning at 4:30 pm.
