Kwara State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the state government of failing in its constitutional duty to protect lives and property.
In an open letter addressed to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and released by State Publicity Secretary Dr. Kabir Abubakar Basambo, the party said cult violence in Ilorin metropolis and other areas has become a “daily harvest of death” and is spreading to previously peaceful communities.
The ADC said young men are being killed in broad daylight as streets are no longer safe for business, learning, or worship after dusk.
The party also raised concerns over security in Woro Community and other parts of Kwara, claiming nearly 190 citizens have spent more than 110 days in captivity.
Citing Section 14(2)(b) of the 1999 Constitution, ADC Kwara said the security and welfare of the people shall be the supreme purpose of government and the purpose is failing in its entirety in the state today.
To address the crisis, ADC urged the government to declare a State of Emergency insecurity in affected local government areas.
The party also recommended community-based intelligence and a joint security taskforce involving local vigilantes, traditional rulers, student unions, and youth leaders to “break the silence” that allows insecurity to thrive.
