Oriokoh Family Compound of the Chairman, Kwara State Chapter of the National League of Veteran Journalists (NALVEJ), Alhaji Mohammed Tunde Akanbi, in Ilorin was filled to the brim at as eminent citizens gathered for the fidau of Hajia Falilat Ajibike Akanbi Oriokoh.
Hajia Akanbi Oriokoh, the mother of Tunde Akanbi, died last Tuesday night and her remains were interred in accordance with Islamic injunctions the following Wednesday.
At the event were the state Governor and Chairman, Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq; two Senior Advocates of Nigeria, Professor Yusuf Ola-Olu Ali, and Alhaji Adebayo Oba Adelodun, Senior Adviser and Counselor to the state Governor, Alhaji Saadu Salahu; Special Adviser on Special Adviser, Alhaji Abdulrazaq Jiddah; and Senior Special Assistant on Religion Affairs, Alhaji Ibrahim Zubair Danmaigoro.
Others were the retired Justice Mudashiru Nasiru Oniyangi of Court of Appeal, retired Justice Salihu Saidu of Federal High Court, Group Managing Director of Kam Holding Limited, Dr Kamoru Ibitoye Yusuf, retired Permanent Secretary in the state civil service, Prince Ayodele Fagbemi; and traditional chiefs of the Ilorin Emirate among others.
In his brief lecture, the Zonal Missioner of Nasrullahi-Li-Fathi (NASFAT) in Kwara, Alhaji Abdullahi Ali Alaya, admonished the Muslim faithful to always prepare for death in their various undertakings.
He noted that every mortal created by the Almighty Allah has been destined when to live, and to cease living, saying that it would be foolhardy to start needless interrogation whenever the death strikes.
The cleric reminded those in positions of authority that it is only Almighty Allah that gives power to whom he wills as enunciated in the noble Qur’an.
Using the analogy of the holy scripture to drive home his message, Alaya urged holders of power to humble themselves and not to fall prey of the deceit that surrounds the paraphernalia of offices they occupy.
Also in his sermon, a renowned Islamic scholar, Ustadh Lukman Mukhtar Isalekoto, told the congregants not to be swayed by the euphoria of their moment of joy.
He urged them to show kindness and be reminded at all times that death is the ultimate for every living soul.
