Human Right Group, Justice for Olatunji has called for the release of autopsy of the slain Indigene of the state who died in Police custody, Olatunji Jimoh Abdulqodir to ascertain the cause of his death
Convener of the Group, Comrade Owolabi Olumuyiwa-Tayo made this demand while addressing a Press Conference in Ilorin
Comrade Owolabi-Tayo said the the Group and the family have been making efforts to access the report without positive outcome
According to him, the autopsy report did not in any way indicate late Olatunji hanged himself
The Human Right Group on behalf of the family appealed to Inspector-General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun, to intervene in the investigation into the death of their son.
The family is seeking the IGPâs intervention to transfer the case out of the Kwara State Police Command and cited lack of confidence in the commandâs ability to conduct a fair and impartial investigation.
Comrade Owolabi-Tayo alleged that the Command is delaying the investigation as the handling of the case by the Police cannot be trusted
The Group therefore urged the IGP to take over the investigation and ensure that justice is served.
The Convener also called on the Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to intervene in the matter and ensure that the family gets required justice.
In his submission, Lawyer to the family of late Olatunji Jimoh Abdulqodir commended efforts of the Inspector General of Police for portraying himself as the father of all in the matter.
He alleged that the preliminary investigation revealed that late Olatunji did not die as a result of hanging himself.
It would be recalled that the IGP had earlier visited the family of the deceased and assured them of a thorough and swift investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
The IGP had also directed the Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID) to take over the case.
The familyâs appeal is a clear indication that they are not satisfied with the pace of the investigation and are seeking external intervention to ensure that justice is served.
