Nigerian First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has condemned the abduction of 25 students from Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga, in the Danko Wasagu area of Kebbi State.
During a visit by the Wives of Service Chiefs to the State House in Abuja, she led a minute of silence in honour of the victims and the late Vice Principal of the school.
The delegation comprised representatives of the Army, Air Force, Navy, and Police Officers’ Wives Associations: Mrs Sefiyan Shuaibu, Mrs Ngozi Aneke, Mrs Aishatu Abass, and Mrs Elizabeth Egbetokun.
Senator Remi Tinubu commended the efforts of the new Service Chiefs in strengthening national security and acknowledged the role of their spouses in supporting community welfare initiatives across the country.
She encouraged stronger collaboration between her office and the associations, recalling productive partnerships with previous sets of service chiefs’ spouses, especially in assisting widows and veterans.
The First Lady also recognised the difficult conditions facing security personnel in Kebbi and praised their continued service despite the risks involved.
She outlined plans for upcoming humanitarian programmes, including financial support for persons with disabilities on December 3 and assistance for the elderly on December 16 through her NGO, the Renewed Hope Initiative.
According to her, N100 million has been set aside to support vulnerable groups nationwide, and she urged the visiting officers’ wives to expand their empowerment activities.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Mrs Elizabeth Egbetokun expressed appreciation for the First Lady’s consistent support and highlighted ongoing initiatives for widows, skills acquisition, scholarships, and aid for the elderly.
The group reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening partnerships that promote women’s empowerment, community development, and national peace.
