Muslim lawyers under the umbrella of the Muslim Lawyers Association of Nigeria (MULAN), Kwara State Chapter today converged in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, to honour Professor Abdulrazaq Abdulmajeed Alaro of the Faculty of Law, University of Ilorin.
The occasion marked the inauguration of the first-ever Qur’an Recitation Competition for both male and female categories, organized in honour of Professor Alaro in recognition of his contributions to legal education and Islamic values.
In his lecture, Guest Speaker Dr. Tajudeen Bello challenged Muslim lawyers to uphold justice and integrity in all facets of their professional and personal lives.
Dr. Bello, who also serves as Chairman of the FCT Abuja Imam Council, admonished lawyers to refrain from bribery and the abuse of legal processes, describing them as custodians of justice whose actions have far-reaching impact on societal wellbeing.
He urged members of the bar to be champions of truth, stressing that the core mission of the legal profession is to mitigate harm, protect the vulnerable, and foster a just society.
Delivering the Chairman’s Remarks, Professor Yusuf Ola Olu Ali, represented by the Vice-Chancellor of Al-Hikmah University, Professor Abdul-Leef Oladimeji, encouraged participants to internalize the teachings and timeless message of Islam to meet future challenges with wisdom and resilience.
Professor Ola Olu Ali, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, further called on the Muslim Ummah to leverage their resources and influence to serve Allah and humanity.
He expressed hope that the Qur’an competition would stimulate increased Qur’an memorization and engagement throughout the state.
He also described the choice of Professor Alaro as most fitting, commending the resilience and commitment of the MULAN Kwara State Chapter in promoting Islamic law, moral education, and ethical practice among legal practitioners.
In his Welcome Address, Chairman of MULAN Kwara State Chapter, Dr. Taofeeq Abdulraheem, appealed to well-meaning individuals, corporate organizations, and government agencies to support this noble initiative aimed at correcting social ills and reinforcing moral values.
Dr. Abdulraheem emphasized MULAN’s commitment to building a society where faith and professional duty complement each other, where justice is firmly rooted in divine guidance, and where the Qur’an remains the ultimate source of wisdom for all.
Responding to the honour, Professor Abdulrazaq Abdulmajeed Alaro expressed his profound appreciation to the MULAN Kwara State Chapter for considering him worthy of such recognition.
He pledged to sustain the confidence placed in him and to continue contributing to the advancement of Islamic values, legal excellence, and community development.
Highlights of the event included goodwill messages from Grand Khadi, Kwara State Shariah Court of Appeal, Justice Abdul-Leef Kamaldeen, Commissioner for Education, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe and Senator representing Kwara Central, Senator Saliu Mustapha, represented by his Executive Personal Assistant, Barrister Abdulkareem Alabi.
