Chairperson, Women’s Political Participation Coordination Group, in Kwara State, Mrs Christie Abayomi Oluwole has described Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has a pace setter of women inclusion in Nigeria
Mrs Oluwole dropped this hint at the Stakeholders Town Hall Meeting on Women Participation in Politics organized by the United Nations Women and Royal Heritage Health Foundation in partnership with Canada held in Ilorin
She said Governor Abdulrazaq is being reckoned with in Nigeria for considering women for elective and appointive positions that earned him the “He for She” award
The Chairperson applauded the Governor for engaging women in his administration through instrumentality of law particularly passage of Political Offices Gender Composition Bill Twenty Twenty-One for gender balanced appointments in the state.
Mrs Oluwole therefore challenged women not to be deterred in vying for political positions to contribute their quota to the society.
Also Speaking, Guest facilitator, Doctor Omotayo Oyerinde-Ojo who spoke on the topic ” Enhancing Coordination Among Stakeholders For Sustained Women Participation in Kwara State identified Cultural Societal Barriers, insufficient resources and support as chronic impediments to women participation in politics.
Doctor Oyerinde-Ojo called on electoral umpire, Political Parties, Non-Governmental Organizations, Community Leaders, Media Practitioners and other stakeholders to be advocates of gender balancing in political offices in Country
In her Remark, Focal Person, United Nations Women Advance Women Participation in Politics, Barrister Abimbola Oyinloye advised women not to see their gender as a barrier but critical stakeholders in Nation Building.
Barrister Oyinloye was of the view that women are extremely resourceful that must not be underestimated in leadership process.
