Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) Ilorin Office today took a sensitization campaign on safety of Intellectual Property to Queen Elizabeth Secondary School, Ilorin tagged “Catch Them Young”.
In his lecture, State Coordinator of the Commission, Mr. Olumide Oduntan encouraged the school management to pay attention to their students in order to help them to discover their creative talents early.
Mr Oduntan urged them to establish an Intellectual Property Club for the students to enhance awareness and engagement on copyright and IP issues.
He explained the concept of copyright and IP rights with attendant economic benefits.
The State Coordinator charged the students to harness their creativity and talents at an early age and put them to positive use and shun all forms of piracy.
Addressing the school management on the purpose of the visit, the State Coordinator reiterated the NCC’s zero-tolerance policy on piracy.
Mr Oduntan advised the school to support publishers, collect receipts, and verify suppliers to avoid any form of infringement.
The school management, led by the Principal, Alhaja Rasheedat Oluwakemi Abdul expressed the school’s gratitude to the Commission for bringing the “Catch Them Young” initiative to them and pledged their full support towards achieving its objectives.
Prior to the engagement with the students, the NCC team met with the school management to discuss the purpose of the visit aimed at raising awareness on Copyright and intellectual property (IP) and educate students on their significance to societal development.
Meanwhile, the NCC team in the State conducted an unscheduled inspection visit at Federal Staff School, Adewole, Ilorin to ensure compliance with the provisions of the Copyright Act, 2022 in line with the directive of Director General of the Commission.
