Retired Grand Khadi, Kwara State Shariah Court of Appeal, Justice Adam Idris has encouraged wealthy Muslims to set aside a part of their wherewithal for Islamic Endowment to eradicate poverty.
Just Idris gave the encouragement while delivering paper entitled Waqf (Endorsement): A Formidable Channel For Development of Muslim Ummah at ongoing Ramadan Lecture Series Organized by Islamic Missionaries Association of Nigeria, IMAN, New Yidi Road, Ilorin.
The Jurist emphasized the need for affluent Muslims to be enlightened as whatever they send forward, they will attract reward in the hereafter.
He described Islamic Endorsement as a reform capable of guaranteeing poverty alleviation, education, and infrastructure development in Nigeria.
According to him, to restore Islamic Endowment as a powerful tool for Muslim development in Nigeria, more Islamic organizations and scholars must educate the public through preaching especially in the midst of wealthy Muslims in the society.
Justice Idris said challenges like mismanagement, legal barriers, and lack of awareness need to be addressed to revive Islamic Endowment in the Country.
He itemized Religious, Charitable and
Family as different types of Islamic Endowments and expressed dismay that despite the presence of wealthy individuals and Islamic organizations, Islamic Endowment remains an underutilized tool for sustainable development.
The Retired Grand Khadi maintained the benefits Islamic Endowment could be distributed among Muslims and non-Muslims as the founder has the right to stipulate conditions not contradictory to Islamic Law.
